Midleton Very Rare 2024 Whiskey 0.7L (40 % vol.)
Midleton Very Rare Whiskey
Midleton Very Rare is a very special bottling. Master Distiller Brian Nation has been creating a new, very special version every year since 2014. For this series he selects the best casks from the Midleton distillery to give the whiskey a unique character.
Production
In search of a special Irish Whiskey, connoisseurs will not be able to avoid Midleton Very Rare. For the 2019 bottling, the Irish distillery combines Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey and Single Grain Irish Whiskey. The blends matured for 13 to 34 years. American oak casks are used for storage.
Nosing
The first aromas are clearly noticeable even before Midleton Very Rare is poured into the glass. The ripe fruits float sweetly out of the bottle. Apple and pear are recognizable. This impression is underlined by toasted oak wood at the latest in the glass. Notes of brown sugar, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla and cinnamon join and reveal: This whiskey is a particularly varied creation.
Flavor
The Pot Still Whiskey is the dominant part on the tongue. Fruits and spices are particularly powerful on the palate, but there is also a lot to discover in the background. Floral notes and spicy wood give it an elegant character trait.
Finish
While the fruity notes in the nose and on the tongue are still dominant, they retreat discreetly in the aftertaste. Instead, this Midleton Very Rare edition ends sublime with oakwood notes and gives the Grain Irish Whiskey room to unfold. In the aftertaste, roasted coffee and nutty echoes can finally be perceived.
