Glendalough Triple Barrel 0.7L (42% Vol.)
Glendalough Triple Barrel 42% Vol (0.7 litres)
The Glendalough Triple Barrel is an Irish Whiskey, which has been further developed from the Double Barrel and not only inspires with its dark amber colour in the glass, but also with its complex and soft taste.
Production
This Irish Whiskey was awarded "Best Irish Single Grain" at the 2017 Irish Whiskey Awards. "Grain" indicates that this whiskey is made from grain. In contrast to the distillation of Single Malts, Single Grain Whiskey is distilled continuously and thus has about 94% vol. in the raw distillate, which is brought to a pleasant drinking strength of 42% vol. by adding spring water. Grain Whiskeys are lighter in taste than Malt or Pot Still Whiskeys. In addition, its aromas can be shaped and extended by cask storage.
Storage is what makes this Irish Whiskey special: first it is stored for about three and a half years in former Bourbon barrels, then about 6 months in Oloroso barrels. Finally, it acquires special aromas through its maturation in Madeira casks.
Aroma and taste
The bouquet of this Glendalough Whiskey is exotic with nuances of raisins, mango and pineapple, which are later accompanied by orange peel and jam. The taste of the Triple Barrel is both complex and light, quite lively. Cooked, ripe fruits such as cherries, plums and raisins dominate. Notes of vanilla, sweet cereals and a slight pungency of pepper round off the complex taste. The finish is clean and balanced. Dark pome fruit is combined with a slight earthiness.
Glendalough Distillery
To bring Irish craftsmanship back to life, that was the aim of the five friends from Dublin and Wicklow. So they quit their jobs and founded the Glendalough Distillery in 2011. Therefore they distil in copper pot stills, avoid cooling filtration and rely on the influence of the wood in which the whiskey is stored for a long time.
Glendalough is a valley in the Wicklow Mountains and is located south of Dublin. The region there is called the "Garden of Ireland" because of its rich flora and fauna. Glendalough is considered by some to be the birthplace of distillation in Ireland, which is closely linked to the Christianisation of Ireland.
